The Haxey Hood Mounting Stone

The mounting stone, pictured below, is the remaining base of a medieval cross. The cross base is also known locally as the “Hood Stone”, from its association with the traditional Haxey Hood game. This is held on January the 6th,  where the stone is used as the site of the Fool’s Speech and the ceremony of “Smoking the Fool”.
